The Boston Globe’s Brian McGrory has won a top journalism honor for his columns in the Metro section, claiming the Sigma Delta Chi Award for general column writing in a daily newspaper with a circulation of 100,000 or more. The recognition, announced Tuesday by the Society of Professional Journalists, comes a month after McGrory won a Scripps Howard Award for outstanding commentary for a similar sample of his 2011 columns.

if this guy is an example of the best that journalism can produce, i'd hate to see whats at the opposite end of the journalistic spectrum.actually he use to be pretty damn good, but, somewhere along the way, he done lost a whole lotta backbone as well as reality.you remember the piece he wrote when the globe announced it was going to start charging for their dot.com and his great words on what the globe and it's people bring to the table.it was great. so brian, go back and reread your own words again. ma
McGrory is a breath of fresh air. His honesty and humor transcend the ordinary. He makes the prosaic sparkle & can be depended upon to elicit a chuckle or sometimes a sigh, or even a sob.
So glad he's writing. What a waste of talent when he was an editor.
Congrats to Mr. McGrory. Keep up the good work.
Great job Brian McGrory! Your columns are always the first thing I read every evening.
