Franklin man surrenders after three-hour standoff with police

A Franklin man was arrested Monday night after a three-hour standoff with police, officials said. A woman called police at about 8:15 p.m., saying she and her daughter had fled from a home on Lewis Street. She told police there had been a dispute in the home for “a period of hours,” and that William Coffone, the owner of the home, allegedly had a .357-caliber handgun. Franklin police surrounded the house and evacuated neighboring houses. Officers shouted into the home in an attempt to get the suspect out of the home peacefully, but he did not emerge, police said in a statement.
