Police seek help in South Boston fatal stabbing

Authorities continued Tuesday to investigate the fatal stabbing of a 67-year-old woman inside her South Boston home Monday morning, appealing to neighbors for help and dredging up sewer drains on the street.

Boston police also said that investigators detected no obvious signs of forced entry into the home at 737 E. Seventh St., where Barbara Coyne was discovered on the first floor at around 10:00 a.m. Monday. She was later pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center.

Officers are urging people to report any information.

Also Tuesday, Boston Water and Sewer Commission workers were sifting through sewage pulled up from manholes on the street and were accompanied by a homicide detective.

A police spokesman said there is no additional information about a possible motive.
