BU student killed in Allston shooting, university says

A graduate student at Boston University was killed early today in an apparent shooting in Allston, the university said.

At about 2:40 a.m., a man was found lying outside near 139 Allston St. and suffering from “severe head trauma,” said Officer James Kenneally, a police spokesman.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Kenneally said. His identity was not immediately released.

The shooting occurred about a mile from the BU campus in a residential area just off Commonwealth Avenue.

There are no suspects, and there have been no arrests, the university said in a message to the BU commuinty.

The killing capped a violent day in the city. A man shot in Hyde Park Wednesday later died, authorities said today. Earlier Wednesday, a man bleeding from a gunshot wound walked into the Target store in the South Bay shopping center in Dorchester and calmly asked for help.
