Deluge temporarily brings relief to a parched Mass.

The gush of rain expected to fall through Monday night brought relief and ended the months-long dearth of precipitation that has left the state’s rivers at record lows and spurred over 200 brushfires. Officials were hopeful that the expected three inches of rain would bring waterways back to equilibrium and recharge aquifers. They were encouraged that the rain began not as a deluge but as a misting, which moistened the ground and prevented run-off when the rain intensified.
