The tribal casino pitched for Taunton by the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe would be built in phases over five years, eventually including a water park, three hotels, and high-end retail shops, according to details the tribe was expected to reveal this morning at Taunton City Hall. The total cost of the project would exceed $500 million, which happens to be the minimum investment required by state law of commercial casino developers.

Most Indian-run casinos aren't doing very well nowadays. Many are actually losing money. As more are built, there's less money to go around. And Taunton doesn't make sense anyway. It's too close to Foxwoods, and especially to the Rhode Island casino that will probably be up and running before the Wampanoags break ground. Several stages of construction over several years likely means it will never be completed.
