MBTA closing doors on Green Line’s free-riders

Back doors close to halt scofflaws

All Green Line trolleys will soon keep rear doors closed when making off-peak surface stops, part of a broader effort by the MBTA to discourage fare evasion. The T began opening only front doors for E Line boarding in mid-January, extending it to the C Line in February and the D Line two weeks ago. The success so far at stopping people from sneaking on without delaying travel is prompting expansion to the B Line, the Green Line’s busiest branch, starting in mid-May.
