Medford housing director placed on unpaid leave

Decision comes amid allegations of mismanagement

Embattled Medford Housing Authority director Robert Covelle was placed on unpaid leave of absence for two weeks and the agency’s second highest paid employee was placed on indefinitel leave tonight amid burgeoning state and federal investigations into hiring and contracting at the agency. The housing authority’s board of commissioners voted to place Covelle on leave with minimal discussion at its meeting on Monday night following weeks of criticism of Covelle’s leadership, including Gov. Deval Patrick’s demand that he resign.
