Details of N.H. police chief’s killing emerge

Maloney aided wounded officer before taking cover behind cruiser

The Greenland, N.H., police chief slain last month was shot as he crouched behind his marked cruiser in front of the home of a drug suspect after pulling at least one injured officer to safety, New Hampshire Attorney General Michael Delaney said Tuesday. Delaney provided the new information at a news conference as part of the first detailed timeline of the gun battle that left the chief, Michael Maloney, with a fatal bullet wound to the head and four detectives injured. Delaney also announced the launch of an independent investigation into the killing.
