Reputed New York mobster indicted in Boston

Faces US charges in $1m extortion

A reputed member of the New York-based Gambino crime family was charged in an indictment unsealed Tuesday with extorting a business of more than $1 million over five years, according to court records. Oreste Abbamonte, 63, of Port Washington, New York, faces up to 20 years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine for the alleged extortion.
