Police say a mother bear was probably protecting her cubs when she attacked a dog in Northampton Wednesday, but the 9-year-old golden retriever is expected to survive. Police say the dog was outside a home about 8:30 p.m. when a mother bear and two cubs came into the yard. The dog was apparently barking at the bears when it was attacked. Police told The Daily Hampshire Gazette the dog received stitches for wounds on its face and neck. (AP)
