Project Bread looking to do more with aid

As 43,000 at Walk for Hunger raise $3.6m, nonprofit seeks an alternative to handouts

More than 43,000 walked varying lengths of the 44th annual, 20-mile Walk for Hunger marathon track through Boston Sunday, raising $3.6 million to help feed the needy in Massachusetts. And now, Project Bread, the nonprofit that runs the marathon, plans to reshape its aid programs to better fight the stigma of asking for charity when it’s needed.
