Joseph Minehan, who grew up in Dorchester dreaming of becoming a firefighter, was promoted on May 8 to Lieutenant, the rank his father held when he died while trying to rescue two other firefighters trapped inside a burning building in Charlestown. The Minehan legacy with the Boston Fire Department dates back to 1900, the year his great-grandfather joined.
