Providence man arrested after chase in Taunton

A Providence man was arrested after leading police on a chase from Rhode Island to Taunton, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The chase Wednesday night began after the suspect allegedly hit a Cranston, R.I., police cruiser.

Police chased the suspect north on Interstate 95, south on Interstate 495, and south on Route 44, before placing him under arrest on Porter Street in Taunton. Porter Street is a dead end. Police said in a statement that “there was no crash.”

Ignacio Abreu, 30, was arrested on outstanding warrants for narcotics offenses. He will also face additional charges in connection with the pursuit and hitting the cruiser.

He was held overnight in the State Police barracks in Middleborough and is expected to be arraigned today.
