Documents emerged Thursday that showed a conflicting picture of how Elizabeth Warren’s ethnicity has been defined throughout her years as a student and prominent academic. Several newly unearthed student and personnel records from the schools at which she taught or attended show that Warren either listed herself as white, or did not mention ethnicity at all. But the University of Pennsylvania, where Warren intermittently taught law school from 1987 through 1995, touted Warren as a minority faculty member in an official school publication, according to an online document obtained by The Boston Globe.

Please. Make. It. Stop. Those involved in Warren's recruitment and ultimate hiring said her racial affiliation was not a matter of consideration when she was first recruited as a visiting professor in 1993 or when she was elected to the faculty in 1995. "Elizabeth Warren's heritage had absolutely no role in the decision to recruit her to Harvard Law School," Law School professor Laurence H. Tribe '62 wrote in an email. Tribe was one of several faculty members who encouraged Law School administrators to recruit Warren and later voted to grant her tenure. "Our decision was entirely based on her extraordinary expertise and legendary teaching ability. This whole dispute is fabricated out of whole cloth and has no connection to reality," Tribe wrote. Law School professor Charles Fried, who was a member of the appointments committee that brought Warren to Harvard from the University of Pennsylvania, called any suggestion that Warren was hired for any reason but merit "complete nonsense." "Elizabeth Warren was recruited (she did not apply—one does not apply for these positions) to be a tenured professor at Harvard because she was preeminent in the fields of bankruptcy and commercial law, two fields in which we had strong teaching needs," Fried said in a statement released by the Law School. University spokesperson John Longbrake added in an email, "President Faust has seen Professor Fried's statement, found it persuasive and considers the matter closed." http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2012/5/8/warren-maginn-faust-letter/ _________________
Lets see, The CEO of Yahoo claims to be Computer Science grad from Stonehill College. All you holders of Yahoo stock should be proud of that one, not. Liz Warren claimed to have been "white," but then again checked "native American." In the last 10 years how many people in important positions have been caught faking, fudging or bending; check that, just plain out lying about the facts. Where in the "crap" did honor go in this country? Who the heck can you trust to be truthful, your barber? Is it Grecian Formula, or is it not? Here's a suggestion. Is it time to institute mandatory waterboarding for all above the rank of worker? Liz Warren has done a great job for the America consumer. Why did she have to ...?
This woman is a TOTAL fraud. She checked off minority status at two universities to further he own career. She lied and has now been caught. Professor Warren's campaign is one BIG joke. She should get out now before it gets worse. How many other folks would have loved to have checked off minority on their applications but were too honest to do so?

What is the big deal. What are you try to prove or accomplish. I see nothing here that would preclude her being an excellent Senator. She certainly has the credentials. thank you
Where are your facts..a liar? she tried to,further her career Geta life We are lucky to have a person who will fight for the middle class
What can't everyone figure out this? Please define what constitutes the definition of a minority for each institution or from a federal perspective, if appropriate and then use facts to see if she meets the criteria. This reminds me of Donald Trump's complaints that the Mashantucket Pequots didn't look like Indians. Who cares? If they meet the definition and you don't like it, change the definition. Just like Mitt Rommney says, I just adhere to the rules.
"Bill John Baker is Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, elected in October 2011.[1] He was repeatedly re-elected to the Tribal Council, where he served 12 years. He is a businessman and has been active in community affairs. Bill John Baker was born in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, where his family has been for four generations. Of mixed ethnicity like many Cherokee citizens, he is 1/32 Cherokee by blood.[2]"
By complaining about Warren's apparent two facedness, all you Republicans are screwing up my plans for getting my grandchildren special preference. Ms. Warren's situation as a Midsouthwesterner is not that unusual. I have blond, blue-eyed grandchildren that are 1/64th Cherokee. I was hoping more for casino ownwership than a law professorship. And one kid in that family sort of looks Native American and at the Wampanoag exhibit at Plimoth Plantation he actually squatted right down with the sachem as if he was born to it (I know that's not the same as high cheekbones). I have another blond blue-eyed grandchild whose "other grandmother" is fisrt-generation South American of Western European descent; I figure we can play that multiple ways. Then I got the Irish French Canadians in case it becomes advantageous to claim automatic Quebecois citizenship some day in the future. And I have some Irish Scots (or black Irish as we call them) in case Scotland gets its independence back. Also they are all great great great great grand nieces and nephews of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (according to family lore); will that get them legacy admission to Harvard? All of my grandchildrens' diverse ethnic and cultural connections come from ancestors other than me; there seems to be no advantage to being 97% Thick Mick other than seeing the absurdity in this whole controversey.
Absent today is reference to the professor's "high cheek bones" facial feature as her evidence of being a . native American. Yesterday I had a comment removed when I noted my native American neighbor's reaction to this reference. While it may indeed be superfluous to the real issue of her credibility, it offended this Navajo/Apache woman and her mother. Isn't the issue really that she allowed the false representation to appear in publications describing her as a native American minority faculty member? It remains a real factor of trust in this candidates willingness to just look the other way instead of standing tall in real honesty. My family has been in this country and my ancestors may indeed have a native American ancestor back in the early 1800's. If some company tried to tout me as a native american to bolster their minority status I would pull them up short and say, "whoa", that just ain't so! Is it "VENOM" to say that Professor Warren should be held to a higher standard than the average citizen when she chooses to try to join that elite U.S. institution of higher government? I think not.
Simply put - Warren has been deceitful and dishonest. American Indians should be outraged at this preposter.
Oh, Granny, things aren't looking good. You are for the consumer (unless you are fighting to limit damages to a large insurance company) You feel for the poor and middle class (while you draw 400K as a do nothing harvard professor) You claim you are white (except when its beneficial to claim you are an indian) You claim you are an indian (except when its beneficial to claim you are white)... You claim you grew up poor (but your family had 3 cars and was *clearly* middle class) Oh Granny...
she did lots to fight for the middle class when she represented Traveler's Insurance company against victims of asbestos, at the tune of 200,000. Is that what you call helping the middle class, I think NOT. she's out for her own pocketbook. Of course she claims to be for us, she needs votes.
My favorite commercial is when she says how hard it is for middle class to afford college, while she teaches 3 classes a week at harvard for 350,000.a year, she's part of the problem not part of the solution.
Like a good Democrat. Lying to advance oneself and know that most of the media will excused her or even protect her. Running in this State, this issue will not really hurt her as many of the dumb voters (John Kerry's words) will vote for her as she has a D after her name.
"Me no likum Lizzie" "She speak with forked tounge"
Wow, excellent bit of detail in Mr. Bierman's column. The Association of American Law School directory only lists her as 'Minority'. So, where did Harvard get the information that Elizabeth Warren was specifically Native American if not from her? No wonder she'd not going to ok the release of Harvard documents relating to her hire.
Americans in general have extremely diverse genetic and ethnic backgrounds. We all have the right to share our pride in different facets of such background without the fear that we are not "pure" enough to claim it. How many people claim they descended from those on the Mayflower or fought in the Revolutionary War or had a slave ancestor? We have no problem with that but attack Warren because is proud that one of her great grandmothers said she was Cherokee. Are we going to demand that everyone carries a genetic passport before they can claim their heritage? I have a great Irish name but only one great, great grandfather had parents who were born in Ireland. Does that mean I can't say I am Irish?
Total baloney. Hellohellohello and celinajohn are much too direct and succinct. No one will agree with them. Too bad. This is a non-issue that is kept alive by fanning the flames of distraction. This is more a more important issue to explore and verify: Why did Scott Brown, who made millions from his premature autobiography, never divulge the name of his molester? We all know what child molesters do and keep on doing, unless they are identified, tried and tracked for life in Massachusetts. Did he die? Move? Ill? Jailed? Or is he still a threat? Scott Brown used this episode to provide a "reading hook" and an opportunity to introduce self-centered sympathy into the mix. He did no one a favor by introducing this episode in his life while keeping the name secret from authorities...except himself. Sic transit gloria, as he will find out in six short months. I'm providing a link for this forgotten chapter. It is a local background piece that has not been retracted.\: http://www.wrko.com/node/141151
This is too funny. Pretty soon Obama will be white, he is 50%...this is turning into how minority are you. Let's just forget it and all be people instead.
If she is 1/32 Native American and 31/32 of European/white ancestry, I think it is preposterous that she listed herself as "minority". I mean, come on! I am very disappointed in her because I always loved her.
Mike Capuanno and Stevie Lynch must be killing themselves for taking a pass on the Senate race
