State to honor 29 public college, university graduates

An aspiring physician who designed and opened a free medical clinic for African immigrants in Worcester. Five veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And the first female African American firefighter in the city of Holyoke’s history. They are among the 2012 graduates of Massachusetts’ 29 public college and university campuses singled out for 29 Who Shine awards, overseen by the state Department of Education. The winners will be honored Thursday at the State House.
