US Senator Scott Brown has turned questions over Democrat Elizabeth Warren’s claims of Native American ancestry into a key strategy, to the exclusion of nearly all others, in his bid to retain his Senate seat. Almost every day for more than two weeks, the Brown campaign, or a Republican surrogate, has highlighted the latest bit of news to emerge on the subject, often citing articles on conservative websites in a bid to coax more coverage from the mainstream media.

The Globe should be ashamed for constantly playing up this sideshow that has little or nothing to do with the real issues in this campaign. And Brown should be ashamed for allowing his staff to bring it up over and over. It's simply not important, just like the "elistist" charge, or Brown's nude photos, or his truck and jacket bought specially for the campaign. What's important is what the candidates stand for and how they'll vote in Washington. The job of the press is more than echoing self-serving statements from the campaign staff every day. What the candidate says may have some weight, but the campaign staff is not running for Senator. The job of journalists is examining the records of the candidates in detail and giving us some real information and analysis.
No one who has worked with or hired Prof Elizabeth Warren has only praise and confidence in her efforts as a researcher, teacher, and author. It is not only that Sen Brown is tilting at windmills but shows a disdain for clear facts and a willingness to engage in meaningless controversy. You are seeing his brand of "bipartisanship" in action. He indeed has an economic and governmental philosophy but so far he has lacked the courage to defend it. He avoids the general public and will not face his own constituents. It is time for him to do some real mental push ups and explain what solutions, if any, he advocates for this nation.

It IS a legitimate question of Warren's character. For some reason, which is known only by her, she showcased some vague and possibly false lineage to Native Americans. There can be no good reason for it, because it shows a desire to be something other than 100% American. It shows a disdain for American heritage, a loathing of American culture. Her reasons are personal, but to voters, her reasons do not matter. The issue is that she WANTED to be something other than 100% American, and perpetrated a lie to create that image. This is a failing of character, that disqualifies her for the United States Senate.
And Sen. brown the centerfold hasn't made decisions in the past that he regrets? It's time to stop the sideshow and get on with the real issues.

It's pretty obvious that Brown is trying to inflate this non-story as a distraction from his glaring lack of integrity. His sucking up to Wall Street and the extremist national GOP is bad for Massachusetts.
"Almost every day for more than two weeks, the Brown campaign or a Republican surrogate has highlighted the latest bit of news to emerge on the subject, often citing articles on conservative websites in a bid to coax more coverage from the mainstream news media." And, like magic, the Globe provides them that coverage. Pay no attention to the man collecting his campaign contributions from Wall Street, and raising interest rates on college loans, because Elizabeth Warren may or may not be a Native American! Your "liberal" media at work folks.
I don't get this comment. In my family we're English and Irish, but there may be a bit of Scottish in there as well. I usually tell people I'm English, Irish and a little bit Scottish. Does that make me un-American? Do I loathe American culture? Your argument is weird.
This was truly enlightening. Thanbks for sharing.
I don't care. Brown cares, because the last thing he wants to talk about are real issues.
How is the Globe liberal? They are doing exactly what the Brown campaign wants with this article.
Let's talk about issues. Please, let's make this the last frikkin story in the Globe about this!
Richmond- Stop it with this "Real American" and "Great American" stuff. It's so 2004Bush/Cheney. You don't get to decide or define what it means to be an American.
This continued focus on something so petty is telling of Brown's inability to find anything substantial to debate that would appeal to the Massachusetts public.
Do you not think that Native Americans are 100% American. What bigotry.
The reaction of liberals, dismissing the false claim as petty or irrelevant, reminds me of how they acted when Clinton lied about his affair with the intern. If it's one of them, it's no big deal. But if it was one of their political opponents who lied about his/her background, as Warren clearly has done, they would be all over it. This speaks to her [lack of] credibility, and is fair game for Brown's campaign.
This is projection. The republican party is so well known for the type of behavior you've described, there's an acronym for it. IOKYAR. https://www.google.com/search?q=iokiyar.
No solid substantiation of Lizzy Warren's Indian ancestry... noted genealogical society pulls out of the issue to avoid more nasty political controversy... Brown brings up Lizzy's forebearers again and again... He should nail her as a probable fabricator if for no other reason than her listing herself as a minority (of an undefined type, the Globe says) in the law school faculty directory for a decade for a specious reason called looking for others like herslf, whatever that means... other whats? Women? Brown and his groupies should keep the issue in play, but should not be so lacking in imagination to keep it a major bone of contention for the next six months. He should sve it for the debates, when he can early in that process test Lizzy's ability to justify her prevarication over an ethnic/racial issue that has (had) the potential of being involved somehow in affirmative action. As for Harvard Law and the other law school, there is plenty of reason to think those institutions are quite adept at spin. So, bottom line is, Brown needs to lighten up... He had a good run... Lizzy looks like a less than totally truthful candidate... Keep it at that ... Brown must keep himself allied ith the middle class, Lizzy the multimillionaire seeks to lure to her corner while trying to make Brown into one of the Occupers' one percent because he drives a pickup truck and wears a barn coat... How truthful is that of Lizzy the Occupy mentor/middle class defender? Of which claim she deserves neither... Prevaricator...
This is like a Karl Rove drive by!
...as Warren clearly has done" I'm not sure it's that clear. If Warren thought that she had a little Native American blood, I'm actually glad she decided to identify with it - couldn't hurt. No big deal. Move on. Of course I'd vote for either Carrot Top (just do your stand-up routine before every vote) or Flavor Flav with the huge clock around his neck and his failed-fried-chicken-restaurant chain before I'd vote for any Republican and especially a fake "moderate" like Brown. (So I might not be the best judge).
I live in New Hampshire so will not be voting for either candidate, but would like Mr. Brown to stick to reasons why he is the better candidate. His bringing up the issue of Elizabeth Warren's genealogy is so petty and detracts from our opinion of his character. In my 60 years of researching family lineages, I have run across many situations where data cannot be substantiated by primary records. My own mother could not obtain a birth cirtificate of her 1910 birth in Prince Edward Island because they did not start making Vital Records a legal necessity until about 1917, but we were assured by her parents of that date. For heavens sake why is Mr. Brown wasting time and money on such a triviality?

Yeah, I'm partly Italian, partly French, partly Dutch and English, and God knows what else. I guess I'm not 100% American by Richmond12's perverted definition.
