Convicted murderer is granted a new trial

A superior court judge in Hampden ordered a new trial yesterday for Charles Wilhite, a man who has garnered the support of several community members in Springfield who have said he is serving a life sentence for a murder he did not commit. David A.F. Lewis, Wilhite’s lawyer, said he received a call Monday night from a court clerk who told him Judge Peter A. Velis granted the new trial.
