Takeover of Mass. racing panel takes shape

The state’s gambling panel, acknowledging it is unlikely to win a delay in its mandatory takeover of the state Racing Commission, approved an interim takeover plan Tuesday to minimize the disruption to the racing industry when the gambling board takes charge on May 20. Under the plan, the Division of Professional Licensure, which currently oversees racing, will continue to handle the state’s day-to-day oversight and administration of the industry, such as managing hiring, rule enforcement and public safety.
