Arthur Vershbow, collector of rare books, donated works to MFA

Thousands of beautifully bound books lined the shelves of Arthur Vershbow’s wood-paneled library in Newton, among them one-of-a-kind prints and manuscripts. A former Boston Athen 1/4um president and an art collector who donated works to the Museum of Fine Arts, he often opened his collection to college students who poured in by the dozens. He could tell visitors where he bought each book and, as friends and family joked, the weather on the day of purchase.
