Basement fire causes $100,000 damage in real estate office near the Fens

A plumber using a torch in the basement of a commercial building near the Fens started a fire that caused $100,000 damage this afternoon, the Boston Fire Department said. Firefighters responded at 2:11 p.m. to 125 Jersey St., where wood between walls in the basement was on fire, the department said. A plumber had been working on pipes in a cellar bathroom. Most of the damage was caused by smoke, according to the fire department, and no one was injured.
