SJC throws out incriminating statements made by defendant in Northampton arson outbreak that killed two

Saying detectives acted improperly in interrogating the suspect, the state’s highest court has thrown out incriminating statements made by a man charged with setting a string of 15 fires in Northampton in December 2009 in which two men died. The two state troopers who interviewed Anthony P. Baye “employed multiple problematic tactics” during an interrogation that lasted nearly 10 hours, the Supreme Judicial Court said today.
