Transit police probe fatal vehicle accident at MBTA ferry boat terminal in Quincy

Transit police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident early this morning at the MBTA’s ferry boat terminal in Quincy.

The incident took place around 3:34 a.m. at the Harbor Express parking lot on Washington Street, according to Quincy Police Captain John Dougan, whose department also responded to the emergency.

According to MBTA spokeswoman Lydia Rivera, an oil truck was in the process of fueling up a commuter boat with the truck positioned on a slight incline.

As the driver, a 42-year-old man whose name has not yet been released, was preparing to engage the fuel apparatus to the commuter boat, the fuel truck’s brakes failed and the truck rolled into the driver, pinning him.

A second occupant of the fuel truck was able to drive the truck off the victim and notify emergency personnel.

Quincy Police Lieutenant John Sullivan said that when officers arrived, they found the victim standing and conscious. But he soon collapsed.

His “condition deteriorated on scene,” Dougan said.

Emergency personnel administered CPR and transported the victim to Quincy Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is now being investigated by transit police.
