One last journey into the night
Israel Arbeiter had to go back — to Auschwitz where he barely survived, and Treblinka, where his parents were murdered. He went seeking peace, but found little of it.
PLOCK, Poland - Israel Arbeiter, known by all as Izzy, traveled from Newton to Poland and Germany to revisit the places where he was held in six concentration camps from 1941 to 1945, and where he lost his parents, two of his brothers, and his childhood home. It is not his first trip back to the towns and fields where he and his family encountered unspeakable evil, but - at 87 - it may well be his last.
