Lowell man arrested after police standoff


Authorities say that a Lowell man stabbed a neighbor and barricaded himself inside his apartment for a two-hour standoff with police, during which he “demanded to be shot” by officers. Craig Monahan, 25, was taken into custody by s SWAT team at his apartment building on Walker Street, police said. At his arraignment in Lowell District Court on Tuesday, Monahan was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing, the Middlesex district attorney’s office said. He is charged with armed assault in a dwelling, home invasion, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
