Conn. to debate tax on cigarette stores

Roll-your-own businesses are targeted by bill

Connecticut lawmakers will return to the state Capitol Tuesday to finish work on a couple of remaining budget-related bills that touch on everything from minimum staffing levels for state troopers to state financial assistance for an expanded number of businesses. But the big focus of the special legislative session is a proposal to impose new state taxes on roll-your-own cigarette stores. The proposal is estimated to generate $3.4 million in state tax revenue and affect 15 to 20 shops.
