Police seek man who climbed rail span

Lawrence police are searching for a 28-year-old man who evaded officials for nearly five hours Sunday night while they were trying to rescue him from the bridge framework he had been climbing. Police said they have identified the man, but did not release his name. He will be charged with trespassing and other crimes, said Police Chief John Romero. Police were called to the scene at about 8 p.m. for two men climbing on the framework of a railroad bridge that runs parallel to Falls Bridge in Lawrence. The bridge is more than 50 feet above the Merrimack River, Romero said. The second man, who was rescued without incident, was charged with trespassing, Romero said.
