Scott Brown stuck in neutral

Scott Brown has been the Luckiest Man in America, but right now, he is shrinking before an electorate’s eyes. Start with his two new television ads. They are, and I’m sorry to report this, ridiculous. Add in his fixation over Warren’s ancestry. And then there’s his refusal to agree to a full slate of televised debates.

i give up. not really, but R.I.P mcgrory as you at one time were a pretty fair country journalist. ma

Brian McGrory, your article is SO BIASED AND SUPERFICIAL. But that is what we expect from a Dem spin hack. Instead of boring readers to death with your spin, try writing a real article for a change. Bet you can't.

Brian, don't wonder why your readership is down, this article is a perfect example. By the way, My favorite Elizabeth Warren commercial is when she sympathizes with middle class families about college cost, all the while making 1000.00 a day teaching 3 classes at Harvard, hypocrite, maybe....

Senator Sidelines will still win...at least he will probably win because talking about sports and his beautiful wife are a lot safer than talking about all of the times he has voted with Mitch McConnel. Give the dude credit...he knows most voters like appearances rather than substance, and that's why he stays on the sidelines when the debt limit and birth control are being discussed - he is firmly in the Republican camp.

FACT CHECK: Prof. Warren has not accepted two radio debate offers- one with Dan Rey. Did Doug Rubin leave that out of talking points Brian? Is it too much to ask that yo give us ALL the facts, not just a few tidbits that benefit the Globe's candidate?

I am sure he does a lot of housework. He sure isn't working in Washington. Scott could stay home 24/7 for all I care, But give us a real senator not this stupid, plastic cosmo bimbo we have.

I like the Dad ad and I think it says a lot of important things about Scott Brown - I think character matters. And I think you're wrong about that being the only things he's saying. Doesn't he have an ad that touts his bipartisanship? I think it's unconscionable that anyone would scoff about Scott Brown not accepting a debate sponsored by the Kennedys. Dont get me wrong - Robert Kennedy was my hero but I think it's a little ridiculous to expect Brown to accept that debate. And on MSNBC no less!!! How about a debate sponsored by the Bush family broadcast on Fox News?

This is an opinion piece. By their nature, they don't cover all of the facts. Same is true of talk radio which normally just wants to engineer and encourage outrage. Are you so surprised that Warren doesn't want to debate in a medium for which the audience is so overwhelmingly right-wing? I mean Dan Rey and the folks over at TKK are so deferrential (even reverential) toward Scott Brown that you'd have to question Warren's sanity to accept those venues.

Agreed, regarding the Kennedy center. Same goes for the laughable idea of them debating on the Dan Rey show or TKK, though. Those were not serious debate offers by the Brown campaign.

OK, help me with this one. How is is shrinking?

Scott's daughter gets health insurance by way of a provision of the 'Obamacare' law, which Scott opposes and wants repealed. I suggest you consider it a wash.

Scooter just needs us to understand that under that empty barn jacket and empty red sox jacket lives a real, plastic human being that desperately wants to get on the Wall Street Gravy Train so he can continue to stay home and do the housework and prepare meals for his perfect family just like all the other men in the commonwealth do.

... can you imagine how he'll vote when he's got a 6 year term in front of him?

Of course they weren't serious offers. Nothing about Scott is serious except his desparate desire to avoid doing anything meaningful the rest of his life. Help Scott by sending him back to Wareham.

This comment has been removed.

Why do all the comments FOR Scooter sound like they were written by Eric Lapdog? Is he at it again? You would think he learned in the gubernatorial election. We threw out Romney and everyone in his administration and rejected Kerry Healey, so it doesn't work.

Mr McGrory, go hang out with Jim Braude.

In my opinion the perception of Brown shrinking from view is due to him taking the high road. I have little doubt he's getting advice from manager(s) who are imploring him to strike the killing blow on Warren but he's pushing back after the last round of "attacks". The next few weeks and the first couple of debates will tell us how savvy he is. Will he submit to the pleadings of handlers who want him to endorse the typically dirty way that the political machine works or will he continue to retake control of his own path even if it means possibly being run over by the Liberal bus? I like this race. It's still his to lose.

Substance-free ad hominem appears to be the order of the day.

Brown is not stuck. If it isn't for the Herald, we would never know about Warren's "native heritage". You paper would never run it and go after it because it hurts your candidate. I watch the interview on Fox the other night and he handle it very well. Warren off course decline an invitation to appear on Fox on the same day. I also seem to note a touch of jealousy on your part regarding Browns' family. If you don't have a loving wife and wonderful children, that's too bad and I feel sad for you.

Look, we all have our favorite candidates. McGrory is inclined to his opinion, and in all honesty if he was discussing a male *Democratic* candidate gussied up in apron strings like this you'd all be having a field day. For what it's worth, though, the partisanship of most of these comments is so clear I can't take them seriously and I'll stop reading them. Seems like folks want a place to gather behind the safety of the internet -- where no one knows who you are, you don't have to actually have a conversation and look someone in the eye when saying these things.

I'm curious. What killing blow?

Since they made the pledge that they will not go negative, there is not much else to do. Her background and lying should be all we need t know about her. And her "scholarly" book was skewered

He's bending over backwards to cover up his reprehensible, pro-industry and anti-people voting record. He is desperately avoiding a policy discussion with any substance whatsoever. If we dare to challenge him about the real issues, he's toast. He co-sponsored the Blunt Amendment, for heaven's sake! He voted AGAINST equal pay for women. He's got issues.

So are we expecting policy - wonk content in these TV and radio spots? Surely you are aware that political ads of that nature seldom hold audience attention. Rather, in the classic American traditions, we soft soap the candidates, peddle a slogan and an image and off to the polling places we march. If the dewy - nice - guy Scott Brown spin leaves you cold, let't apply the same analysis to Ms. Warren's campaign - and granted, we are just in the opening frames but - who cares, lets give it a try.(( graph )) Needless to say - the slogan has been hammered ... opps, wanted to avoid that word but is there anyone in Mass who has not heard the " zero down, Zero Down, ZERO DOWN at IRA!! ", I mean, " hard working middle class families are getting hammered ... " mantra? Is there a second stanza or is that the whole tune? Her current ads tell a version of her rags to riches life story - the usual bending of the facts and torture of language, but that can be forgiven - it 's the silly season after all. Now, how much of her family will be inked into the picture ... hmmm ... we have a college law professor ( I left out the usual ivory tower reference )who makes an astounding amount of money that in the end - is in fact sourced from endowments, Federal funds and student tuitions, married to a college professor who makes an Even more astounding salary sourced from ... well, see above. Together, they are not charter members of the 1%, they are well entrenched in the 1/10th of 1% - HEY!! let's leave that out of the narrative, it's a poor fit with the myth - making. No ... the husband will be kept well in the background, outa - site, just like with Martha Coakley. Does she have bright - shiny kids to show off?? Do not know - and do not really care but on the other hand, are they by any chance, members of the " occupy " movement, that same movement that Ms. Warren " provided the intellectual capital " to help form? Or, maybe they are already thru with law school and on their own ... pro bono work perhaps ... just like mom and dad Never had time to do? Well ... maybe the son is already of active duty in Afghanistan and the daughter is working in Haiti ... or just maybe ... not. OK, ok ... let's leave the family out of it. (( GRAPH )) Brian - you can choose Tide for what ever reason and I'll choose All. There may be some actual content in the debates - beyond that, wake me when we get to the laundry soap aisle.
