Ten beaches, from Quincy down the South Shore, closed Thursday due to high bacteria counts, including a Duxbury beach shut down after posting its highest count in over five years. After recent rains, several Quincy beaches had bacteria counts much too high for safe swimming. Back Beach, off Delano Avenue, was almost 60 times the recommended level, according to data from the state’s Bureau of Environmental Health. In Duxbury, the residents’ beach had 30 times the recommended level of bacteria.

The North Shore beaches are the best in MA. And so far, no bacteria either.
I was at Wollaston Beach yesterday & saw NO FLAGS or SIGNS or anything to indicate the water was off limits. The lifeguard chairs were empty if that meant anything. As it happens, I did not go in, but I saw a man with his little boy who was up to his ankles & picking things up from the water. This is a derelict way of looking out for public safety when the only notice is to read about it a DAY LATER !
