40 years after Vendome Hotel tragedy, family, friends honor fallen firefighters

For sons and daughters of the nine firefighters killed in the 1972 Verdome Hotel fire, Father’s Day remains bittersweet. Family members and retired firefighters will gather Sunday at the memorial for the fallen firefighters to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the deadliest fire in Boston history. That four-alarm fire broke out in the abandoned Vendome Hotel at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Dartmouth Street on the afternoon of June 17, 1972.
