Volunteers build home for wounded Marine

Volunteers have finished building a home for a Marine corporal from Connecticut who was severely wounded in Afghanistan nearly two years ago. Dozens of people turned out as Manny Jimenez, 23, was presented with the home in Glastonbury Saturday evening. The construction was overseen by Purple Heart Homes, an organization that helps wounded soldiers with housing. The group bought the Addison Road property from the town for $1. The New Britain native lost his left arm, the hearing in his left ear, and some sight in his left eye when a bomb exploded in August 2010. Jimenez now competes in triathlons and says he hopes to be hired by town schools as a physical educator teacher. More than 300 volunteers broke ground for the home on March 1.
