BROOKLINE — A bear that was climbing a towering pine tree in an upscale neighborhood was shot by a tranquilizer dart and plummeted some 80 feet, but the animal survived and is now being relocated to Western Massachusetts., officials said this morning. “The bear is doing fine,’’ Brookline Police Chief Daniel C. O’Leary told reporter. “Bears are resilient animals.” O’Leary said the animal discovered sleeping in the tall tree on Pine Road today is a male that has been captured and relocated by wildlife officials twice in the past. He said the bear is two to three years old and weighs about 200 pounds.
