RUTLAND, Vt. — The US Forest Service says $7.7 million in federal funds has been allocated to repair road and trail damage from Tropical Storm Irene in the Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont. The funding will be used to restore watersheds and rebuild roads, culverts, bridges, and trails that were severely damaged by the storm last August. The Green Mountain National Forest previously had received more than $1 million to restore and improve the White River, Mad River, and Batten Kill watersheds following Irene. The Forest Service will be working through agreements with the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps, the Vermont Mountain Bike Association, and the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers to implement prioritized recovery projects on the ground.
