For three blissful days earlier this month, Raquel, a housekeeper living in Lynn, thought President Obama’s recent announcement on immigration — that illegal immigrants brought here as children would not face deportation and could apply for work permits — would solve all her problems.
Raquel was 4 when her parents brought her to the United States from Mexico; she has lived in America, undocumented, for more than a quarter-century.

""It gets me angry, because why didn't he do this since the beginning [of his term]?" said Raquel. This is what gets me. Raquel, and others like here are in this country illegally, and THEY'RE the ones who are angry. It is as if they feel as though they have a right to be here when they do not.
Que lastima.
Let's just give instant citizenship to everyone who gets across the border, legally or not. Then at least the whining will stop. (I don't really mean it.)
this is the problem with any kind of program. someone will be left out and start complaining. we have immigration laws and they should be enforced until they are changed by congress not presidential edict. both sets of my grandparents came here from abroad but they did it legally, waiting and fufilling the constraints of the law. if you are here illegally then you have no right to complain. to the lady mentioned at the end of the article, no you are not an american you are an illegal immigrant living in america

What makes these nativists who were born here so special? Everything starts as an accident of fate, we ought to be a little more humble and accepting.
Could the Dream Act turn into a nightmare? In order to qualify you have to be a child of illegal immigrants. What does the government do with their parents?

My heart bleeds!
Demanding an amnesty is the wrong strategy. For starters it further polarizes already polarized positions. We are a country of laws and laws need to be upheld. Disregard for the law is what alienates folks who would be otherwise willing to sit down at the table to negotiate a solution. On the other hand, the enforcement of current laws can't solve the problem of millions of undocumented individuals. Carrying out a massive deportation is almost impossible to execute. It would also be extremely costly and would bring to a screeching halt the court systems across the country. Doing nothing -politicians choice until Obama gave his approval to Homeland Security to use its prosecutorial discretion to stop deporting certain young, law-abiding undocumented immigrants- is even a worse plan. We need new laws to address the situation of these individuals but they should ensure that, for instance, we don't have amnesties every 25 years. It's time to take a deep breath and take a step back, put our heads together and come up with a solution. After all, politics is the science of the possible.
Just that... what this 'redtop' person calls 'nativists' were born here (in the U.S.) and by being so automatically qualify for legal citizenship... This nutso attempt to use a naturistic philosophical bit of logic to try and justify illegal aliens, whether qualified for Barry the O's imagined temporary amnesty or unqualified, would open a door to any person in the world who found a way to cross a U.S. border. Am I lucky to have been born an American - yes and no. Yes, because there was an accident of nature. But also, my grandparents decided... decided - made a risky decision - to emigrate to America from Europe during the late 1800s. They got here legally, and my parents were born here... legally. There was a little luck involed that my grandparents' coffinships succeeded in crossing the Atlantic. But there was also a solid, logical risk taken. The difference between my family situation and that of an illegal alien brought here illegally by family members was that my family arrived legally, like that or not.
So if a US citizen defrauded social agency's, lied to state and local officials, forged documents to avoid federal and state of taxes, for twenty five years, that is OK. Any US citizen would go to jail. When an illegal immigrant lies, cheats and steals, it seems they are hailed as model citizens, living in an unfair country and rewarded in the tabloid as a model illegal immigrant. When illegal immigrants are rewarded with right to vote, access to free college for their families, free medical and subsidized housing. A new class of citizen will have been created a legal parasite. Does this equate to Representation without taxation? Why would the illegal immigrant want to become a citizen? For some the Good Old USA is the best country in the world. Send for your relatives today.
Someone needs to start editing for temporal errors. The writer says, "She had turned 31 at the end of April. The presidential measure applies only to those under the age of 30 who came to this country when they were 16 or younger. She missed eligibility by less than two months." If in fact you need to be UNDER 30 (e.g., 29), then she'd missed eligibility by ONE YEAR and two months. Later in the article, the requirement is described as 30 or under. That's a year's difference. Which is it? Under 30 (e.g., 29), or 30 and under?
