Sticky weather to return by end of week

Enjoy the cooler weather while you can, as uncomfortable weather will return by the end of the week, the National Weather Service reports.

Highs for today will be in the low to mid-80s, with a mix of sun and clouds. Showers are expected in the afternoon and early evening, with a chance of thunderstorms, according to meteorologist Charlie Foley. When they clear out tonight, temperatures will drop to the upper 50s to low 60s.

Tuesday is expected to be the nicest day of the week. But temperatures will start heating up, reaching the mid- to upper 80s away from the Cape and islands, where temperatures will be in the upper 70s to low 80s, the forecasters said.

For the Fourth of July, temperatures will range from the upper 70s along the coast to the mid-80s well inland, forecasters said. Humidity will be uncomfortably high, though, and scattered strong thunderstorms are possible.
