After three consecutive summer vacations on Martha’s Vineyard, President Obama and his family apparently will not be relaxing on the island this year as a heated presidential campaign gathers momentum toward what is expected to be a close election.
The State Police detachment on the island has been told that the president will not be coming; extensive bookings to house the president’s staff and security have been canceled by the White House travel office; and the 28-acre waterfront estate in Chilmark where the Obamas stayed the last three years has been sold to a British couple.

Don't feel too bad...he had several taxpayer funded vacations this year and he will continue campaigning on our dime as well.

Yumi Kim could not be reached for comment; Ma State Police Patrolman Eric Gahagan was quoted, " as soon as I get dun ripping my calfs, I'll take my frustration out on local drivers ".

True but schedules aside, doesn't it sicken you to know what the costs are of these "events" which are paid in part by you and me? I'm all for vacationing and whatnot but the sheer amount of money and disruption it takes to do that while Camp David is a helicopter ride away seems crazy. I remember some wild figure for the First Lady to fly to NH for a luncheon a couple of years ago and that was nuts. WRT to your Romney post, I wonder what that is costing us? I have no idea.

Will the Obama family vacation in Detroit or Milwaukee to prove they are populists? Stay tuned. But if reelected, Obama will return to the Vineyard and Hawaii.
Don't worry, next years President will be vacationing at his place on Lake Winnipesukee.
Oh, well, it is an election year. There's still Camp David, and there's always Hawaii. Life will go on. Obama has played more golf in four years than W did in eight and the flag draped coffins still arrive in Delaware, no longer featured on the front pages of the NY Times, the Washington Post or the Boston Globe. Nice to be a Democrat and have the press in the tank for you.
