9-year-old boy struck and killed by car in Dorchester

A nine-year-old boy was killed Tuesday night in Dorchester when he was hit by a car, police said.

Police found the child at at the corner of Columbia Road and Washington Street about 10:32 p.m. Tuesday being treated by medics. He was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Boston police spokeswoman Nicole Grant said the driver of the car involved in the incident stopped after the boy was hit.

Grant said the incident is under investigation. No charges have been filed in the case yet. The Boston police accident reconstruction team is looking into the circumstances of the incident.
