A woman in her 20s was robbed at gunpoint while walking near Coolidge Corner early Thursday, Brookline police say.
The woman was robbed of cash and keys around 12:30 a.m. at the corner of Winchester and Fuller streets near the JFK Crossing and Coolidge Corner neighborhoods in Brookline.
Brookline police said the woman had been walking on Winchester Street when another woman driving a midsized car stopped to ask her for directions. While the woman was talking to the driver a man walked past her to the corner of Winchester and Fuller streets.
When the woman resumed walking and reached the corner, the man displayed a silver handgun and grabbed the cash and keys from her shoulder bag, police said. The robber then began walking on Winchester Street toward Beacon Street and told the woman to walk in the other direction, police said.
Police said that shortly after the robbery, the same driver who had stopped to ask for directions returned and pulled alongside the woman to ask if she was all right. When the woman said she was, the vehicle left the area.
Police said it is unknown if the driver was involved in the crime. Both the driver and the robber were said to be middle-aged.
Police said the midsized car had a baby seat behind the driver’s seat, but no further description of the vehicle was available.
