For the first time, Boston is poised to set defined fees for the rental of City Hall Plaza, with the money going directly to city coffers.
The move comes after the Globe reported earlier this year that for decades, advertising firms, film crews, vendors, and other commercial entities made donations for use of the red-brick plaza to a nonprofit controlled by the mayor’s office. Until now, fees have been negotiated on an individual basis and varied from event to event.

Is this how Menino runs all his departments?
OMG - now it makes sense why Menino saw nothing wrong with Boston employees pocketing wedding fees: Menino is also pocketing (using) the rental fees from the City Hall Plaza for his own private fund!!!!! GO FIGURE . . . Menino's moral judgement is no better than Carol Johnson's. Tell me again how long has Menino been using the rental funds for his 'private' fund, and how much money has Menino collected?
The City of Boston needs to be audited.Plain and Simple .
"Transparency", "City Hall", and "Boston" are, when considered together, a classic oxymoron. Benefit the taxpayers? Ha! I'll believe this and other purported "benefits" when I see them.
