Bishop Michael R. Cote of the Diocese of Norwich says he has started the process of dismissing a Waterford priest charged with possessing child pornography. The Day of New London published online a letter on Saturday from Cote to parishioners saying that the diocese has begun the process to dismiss the Rev. Dennis Carey from the clerical state. The bishop said he also will offer to send Carey, who had been pastor of St. Paul Church, to a residential treatment program. Carey, 65, resigned from the parish and was charged with possession of child pornography. He was released on $100,000 bond.
