Several Boston city councilors questioned the leadership of School Superintendent Carol R. Johnson on Tuesday, a day after she publicly apologized for failing to take action when one of her headmasters was arrested for assaulting his wife.
Johnson said she “made a mistake” by not placing Rodney Peterson on administrative leave after his June 17, 2011, arrest and sent the wrong message about domestic violence when she wrote a glowing letter on Peterson’s behalf to the judge who sentenced him to probation.

Mr. Petersen case is not the first case of mishandling an employee that has lost the publics trust. When councilor Connolly found the epired food then director Helen Mont Ferguson got reassigned to the Wellness dept. Last year when our buses could not get our students to school the director Michael Hughes was moved to Assistant director.Principals have been shuffled all around if any problems have arised. the rates of graduation have gone up slightly. The waitlist for schools is skewed because of the zone system and the availibility of a quality school within your zone, probably has more to do with the increase of the citys population. The Superintendent and the Mayor are not in tune with the struggles parents are having with the decisions they have to make regarding sending our children into the Citys Schools. The Principals and teachers that they are bringing in to our schools are only driven by data and have not connected with the families that keep the school communities active. Parents and taxpayers are sick and tired of the Russian Roulette game that is being played with our childrens future. How many models of a school can a district have? The Inequitable distribution of funds is akin to neglect. This administartion is on the verge or has already lost out funding due to its lack of a solid foundation of education. They Bash Teachers and even Parents the Community Meetings are a sham and the reason Menino and Murphy and Rev. Groover are defending DR. Johnson is because this rotten onion is only beginning to be peeled away and it is rotten to the core.
Of course Mayor Menino supports School Superintendent Carol R. Johnson: he also supports the practice and allows Boston city employees to pocket the 'wedding fees' they collect during their work day, which incidentally they receive a Boston city paycheck. The Boston Mayor also believes he can personally use the 'rental fees' that are collected from the Plaza rentals in from of the Boston City Hall! Go Figure - no critical thinking - no ethical thinking. Isn't this called 'greed?'
maybe the Globe should look into why he was hired to begin with, why did the O'Bryant need a co-headmaster when other, larger exam schools do not?
She needs to go. People have lost their jobs for less. Menino never fails to amaze.
How is this a mistake? Johnson told Peterson he faced no disciplinary action even before the matter was heard in court, with assurances that nothing would happen to him "unless the media finds out." In what universe were procedures to handle allegations of serious criminal wrongdoing something new to the Superintendent? Her seeming epiphany comes only after the sordid tale was revealed in the Globe. Johnson should resign.
