To grasp the full magnitude of what happened in New York City that Thursday evening in June, you have to go back to the previous night in Kennebunk, Maine, to an ancient little restaurant called The Clam Shack that hangs perilously on the shores of the Kennebunk River.
Steve Kingston is the likable owner, and as such he’s a one-man force of nature — boiling, shucking, frying, cleaning. You name it, he does it, though the truth is, Jeni, his wife, does even more.

Damn, Brian... Won't be able to get near the place now... All those Nu Yawkers will be all over the place!!!
I can't wait to give them a try!
This place IS delicious...except for the bulkie rolls. A lobster roll's gotta be on hot dog bun!
This Maine gal respects the lobsta roll tradition of the hot dog roll but I had a lobsta roll at the Clam Shack a couple of weeks ago and it tasted like perfection! FRESH, FRESH, FRESH! By the way...Reillys bakery is a family favorite and a local gem and has always been on the absolute top of my bakery list. I wasn't at all surprised to learn that they bake the rolls for the Clam Shack. Time spent waiting at the Clam Shack is a great time to people watch and take in the scene!
YAY!!! I agree-- Clam Shack is the BEST!!! Nothing but the most awesome hot grilled fresh bun, the sweetest lobster there is & your choice of mayo or butter. No lettuce, no celery, just naked lobster dressed with ...pardon me, I'm drooling.
