For your own good, for the good of everyone around you, grab all the television sets you own, lug them to the garage, and heave them in the trash.
Do it now. Do it before it’s too late. It doesn’t matter if it’s an old Magnavox or a brand new Samsung, a 20-inch black and white or a 60-inch high-def. Get rid of it.

Just don't watch TV, you'll never regret it. You can watch the game with the sound off like in a pub.
Apparently the version of democracy practiced in the US of A is one in which the people who get to occupy the positions of decision making in the government are the ones who can tythe the greatest amount of money to the owners of television stations. So who, really, is the group with the power in this equation? A seriously broken system.
In Flori-duh, they've been dealing with this for months. I'll add that you need to locate the mute button on your remote control right now and when the "pollution" starts, USE it. You won't miss a thing.
That's why I watch PBS. That is if House members don't take away Federal $$$ from funding the only station worth watching.

Why do people watch ads? That is what a clicker is for.
I'm already using the mute button.
I'm a news and political junkie. Never a political issue or discussion that I wouldn't civily add my 2 cents. But the last election was viscerally nasty on both sides. I've decided this go-round to do my own research, decide my positions on the various issues and vote my choice. Earlier this year I received several of those politically charged, dire warning missives that the world was going to end if certain policies ( spelled out in detail ) were passed into law. We were all told to check it out on Snopes.com because that is where it came. I did and Snopes declared the attached statements to be FALSE. Several other fact checking sites did the same. Snopes even detailed how the official document had been altered then passed along. I replied in correct detail to all in the e-mail what was erroneous and wrote to check it out for themselves. I was removed from my former friend's mass mailings, but did get some congratulatory messages from enough to know that I'm not alone. I've taken myself out of discussions about politics with family and friends. It's been a tough withdrawal. But over the past 6 months I'm enjoying it. Even with agreeable friends I let the talking happen as I read my IPad politely excusing myself from the fray. Everyone is so set in his or her position so time not wasted for me. I can only imagine how things are going to be when the real political season begins after the conventions. I'm making my list of good books to read in the fall.
Mute them or find something else to watch, a sporting event or perhaps, on Comcast anyhow, music choice, during the commercial breaks. Or, if you have DVR, record the show and fast forward through the commercials. If you start the show 15 minutes late and are recording it, or you just let it play, you can rewind to the beginning and still skip the commercials.
How come on BDC when you remove a comment you say it was abusive but when the Globe site removes a comment, you just say that you removed it?
This is silly. Of course there's a way to avoid political ads. You just need a DVR like Tivo and then you can avoid all ads, period. I almost never watch anything in real time anymore; it takes too long. By default, I regard all ads as false; why should I watch?
