A tanker truck hauling 8,000 pounds of gasoline overturned on Interstate 95 near Exit 38 in Woburn on Monday night, shutting down the highway in both directions, State Police said.

Authorities have since reopened the northbound and southbound lanes.

State police say the crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. Monday and that preliminary reports are that the tanker truck collided with a passenger car. The truck driver was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with unknown injuries.

Several homes and businesses in the area were evacuated.
