LEOMINSTER — Leominster police supervisors believe that one of their officers directed a racial epithet at Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford this month during a minor-league game in New Hampshire, interim Police Chief Robert Healey said Wednesday.
A 10-day internal investigation of the accusation also turned up other incidents in which the officer, John A. Perreault, appeared to violate department rules about comments to the public, Healey said at a press conference. He did not provide details about those incidents.

Come on right wingers...you know you want to use it...go ahead once and it will make you feel better - call Obama a "Monday" and make yourself happy.
We all know the union will fight whatever discipline is handed out.
How sad that you lump everyone who disagrees with Obama into the category of racist. Just because I oppose the president's socialist initiatives does not mean that I hate any particular ethnic group.
Is it possible to disagree with the President's policies without the far-left calling you a racists? Probably not.
I wasn't there, so I don't know the context. Maybe his intent was to insult Crawford, I don't know why he's a great player, but couldn't one assume any word can be a substitute? I remember a case back in 1993 when a foreign student, trying to sleep, but couldn't because of a noisy group of mostly black women. He yelled - Shut up you water buffalo. (slang for a rowdy stupid person.) Well, even though others yelled overly racist thing he was the only one charged with being racist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_buffalo_incident -- Again, I am not trying to justify this man's actions - but it does bring up First Amendment issues.
Wow, I pronounce Lordchaucer the King of Moronica. Although I've never even heard of the term "Monday", what an idiotic thing for you to say.
No doubt~! What other purpose does a union serve these days?

The officer should be fired. There is no place in policing for racism. And it is entirely different than private citizens exercising their right to act like idiots and use hateful speech. Our public servants need to respect a) all of the people they are supposed to protect and serve and b) the rules and expectations of their departments. I'm pretty sure hurling hate speech at black people is explicitly prohibited by LPD. Fire him.
Agreed and if true, it speaks to the person behind the badge. Do a brief but effective investigation, force him to apologize if he did say it and then dump this tool from the force.

If he's found guilty - he should e fired. I would assume a cop using hate speech against ANYONE is prohibited. Not just blacks.
This guy was off duty...guess he should have called him an f@#&% a$$...that does not specify race or are the police just barred from saying anything insulting about anyone? Is stupid or idiot also a fire-able offense? How about giving someone who cuts you off in traffic the finger? While not nice, I don't think you should lose your job...I think prospective is important. If he loses his job, then any cop arrested for beating his wife should be fired (surely that is more severe than a bad word).
The difference being this particular racist is a cop. Not acceptable. Period.
