Boston school superintendent announces full review of top staff

Superintendent Carol R. Johnson announced Friday night that she is planning to conduct a full review of her leadership team, following recent questions over her leadership. She also took disciplinary action against two employees who are under investigation.

Johnson said the review of her executive staff would probably lead to a major shakeup that will include a redefining of roles and duties and possibly some departures or new hires. She stressed that the reorganization would be cost neutral.

Who is going to review her leadership? I prefer not to refer to the saying about the fish rotting from the top becasue she seems to be a sincerely nice person, but she her numerous fumbles clearly mark her as someone in over her head. And speaking of the head of the fish, why has the mayor gotten off without any critisism? She is his hire after all.

What is wrong with this picture? ALOT is wrong with this picture. After showing terrible judgement time and again, Ms. Johhnson needs to go and soon! The others who are to be disciplined, should be disciplined by those who are competent to do so. Unfortunately with the likes of a Menino and a Patrick this issue with Johnson raises uncomfortable accusations as to why Johnson was hired in the first place. Frankly, all three of them should go away!

Start with a cut of 35% of the adminstrators making big $$$ and doing no work. The biggest joke in the East--The Boston Public Schools. You can start by doing criminal records checks!!

The leadership team, students and families of Boston, and of course taxpayers will pay the price for Carol Johnson's personal and utter failure. The only question that needs to be asked is "why is she still there?" No "major shakeup", "redefining of roles and duties" or any other bureaucratic nonsense is needed. The only "departure" that makes sense is her own, and the only "new hire" needed is her replacement.

That's what happens when you put Black folk in leadership positions - corruption and nepotism. They can't run African countries. They can't run anything well.

Just going to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic!

If she does end up firing those who don't really deserve their jobs, there will be a lot of vacancies; and then the question, what has she been waiting for---some of the biggest admin hacks in the system are quite tied into some of the worst teaching staff. Perhaps looking at those admins who continue to pop up like bad pennies, in and out of the system even, with marriages and other personal ties. And looking at the Boston Police logs (and other), who has made bonus $ through things like textbook contracts, auditing the expenditure of the millions of non-profit and grant $ that somehow never get to the kids, an audit, too, of legal actions brought against the system and administration over the past few decades...

Hey Carol, guess where the buck stops? Look in the mirror. You are not getting the job done. Leave with a little grace.

Let me get this straight....Ms. Johnson makes a really bad error in judgement, apologizes AFTER the story is in the Globe and her method for correcting her ways is to review those who report to her???? Looks like some school employees are going to be fired by Ms. Johnson for her errors. Great management style.

Readers who feel more than a review is needed for the benefit of BPS and that there should be new leadership at the top are urged to read and consider signing this online petition: https://www.change.org/petitions/superintendent-johnson-has-lost-the-public-s-trust-and-must-resign-or-be-fired-immediately

WOW! This is the fastest I have ever seen Boston Public Schools move. Seriously, I am impressed! There is a new principal at the Joyce Kilmer School! Jerome Doherty has been removed from the BPS Kilmer School webpage and from the Kilmer School's Website! Is he ascending to Court Street's "Inner Circle" because he actually demonstrated some "leadership" (common sense) and, bypassing the middleman, reported correctly, or is he being sent into the abyss because there wasn't a policy in place? ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Now, what's the hold up on removing Narcisse from English High websites? The "5 Year Graduation Plan" Narcisse bragged about in the Jamaica Plain Gazette cost the city $2,833,220! When I look at the 'EHS graduation video, all I think about is that Boston University charged English High $20,000.00 just for the hall! It didn't include the caps and gowns for Narcisse and the staff, the large screen TV rentals, and security; all adding to the final bill which amounted to how much? (No P.I.L.O.T. Program Community Service Credit for B.U.!) Meanwhile, back at The English High, students were retained another year because, even though Narcisse had the "race to the top" money, he didn't spend it on safeguards like onsite credit recovery or remediation services; that would have given these students the opportunity to graduate on time! He spent all that money on a self-serving "photo op" at Boston University!
