A steel beam fell 15 feet and hit a construction worker near Kendall Square early Saturday afternoon, police said.

The 30-year-old man was conscious and alert when police arrived at the site, 75 Ames St., at 1:30 p.m., police spokesman Dan Riviello said in an email. The man was taken to a hospital Riviello declined to identify with non-life threatening injuries.

Police notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Riviello said.
