Standing poolside in sleek, black swim trunks and a lemon-colored swim cap at MIT’s Johnson Athletic Center, Christian Farmer was about to find out if the second time would be a charm. At his first triathlon last September, Farmer surprised his family and friends by placing third with no previous experience. “He was still on training wheels,” said Colleen Wade, Farmer’s mother. For his first attempt in the grueling sport, it wasn’t too shabby. Especially for a 5-year-old.
