Wildlife officials have killed hundreds of Canada geese that were blamed for contaminating ponds and lakes at Roger Williams Park in Providence. The Providence Journal reported Monday that 410 geese were removed from the 435-acre park and killed this month. Wildlife workers also applied oil to 400 goose eggs to kill the embryos. Meat from the geese that were killed was given to charity. The large numbers of geese have been blamed for water quality problems at the park. Officials said park visitors who feed the geese are partly to blame for the increase in the goose population.
