The deadly shooting in Colorado has thrust the debate about gun control into the Massachusetts Senate race between Senator Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren, exposing areas of deep division and some surprising agreement between the Republican and Democratic candidates.
Warren’s positions are largely in line with those of gun-control advocates, while Brown had long been endorsed by gun rights groups until he recently broke rank on a high-profile issue.

Warren is absolutely correct on this issue. Banning military style assault weapons does not weaken the 2nd Amendment in the least. AK 15s and AK47s and the ammunition magazines that feed them are war machines, not hunting or home protection tools. Deranged or evil persons will find a way to get the weapons they want BUT while the rest of us sit around waiting to see the next Aurora on the news, can't we make it harder for them? You now have my vote Warren. We need more leaders who have the courage to do what is RIGHT, not what is politically safe.

Lizzie did end up calling Washington first to make sure, her opinion agreed with her boss. Ater that she decided to speak "her mind".. So typical of what's on tap for the future.
The United States needs national leadership on this issue. Machine guns should be limited in use to military only. The notion that anyone needs a machine gun to protect their home is just silly. I'm not even sure that cops need them. Heck, although there probably isn't much statistical evidence available, I'll even bet that for non-psycho crime (bank robbery, kidnapping etc.), criminals with assault weapons are no more likely to do harm than with regular handguns. A machine gun will make you no more safe statistically in a home invasion. Really its most useful purpose is to kill large numbers of people in a crowd. Finally, I'll end with this thought: People (men) who keep machine guns in the home for protection against home invasion secretly want that home invasion to occur so they can play hero. Stuttering Yahoos unite!!!
Yay Warren! Semiautomatic and assault weapons should NOT be in the hands of ordinary citizens. These weapons are designed and intended to murder people; they have no place in civilian life.
The public position of long time NRA president Wayne Lapierre on Obama and guns is that Obama's record of inaction and conscessions on gun control laws is actually a fiendish plot to "take away our guns" after he's reelected. Given that level of delusion, the reponse to Brown's recent decision to take a position that the NRA doesn't like should be "what took you so long?", not "congratulations!".
Even when the Republican position is a guaranteed loser, Brown often votes the party line, so I am going to assume this is just projection.
While you correctly identify Rahm Emanuel as a Democrat, you fail to say what he has to do with the Mass Senate race, and your implication that he is a liberal is laughably wrong. Emanual is slightly to the right of his old boss, who only looks like a liberal to people on the extreme right wing fringe.
Scott Brown: exactly _how_ do you plan on keeping assault weapons from crossing state lines, now?
This is an interesting contrast of candidate's positions on a major issue. Lizzy does nothing more than echo the dogmatic Demomob stuff, proving she has no mind of her own on these issues. The Glob notes that she hails as an Okey, a person from a state where gun rights are cherished. Yet, Lizzy the bankrupt expert professor, offers nothing except Cantabridgian rhetoric on personal ownership of arms. So much for her being a legal beagle on this issue. Brown has at least a record that offends both sides of gun ownership. He is a states righter on gun regulation, excepting certain sorts of weapons. And neither the GOAL nor the NRA nor the disarm everybody but the cops mob will endorse Scott Brown. Seems he must be doing his job well on this issue rather than pandering for the backing of one side or the other. A durned good reason to demonstrate why Massachusetts needs a Republican or three to represent it in the U.S. Congress.
Yes, Lizzy tapped into the Cantabridgian-minded lot, as candlone proves, with her assumption of sudden views on gun control. Lizzy never wasted a grey cell on guns until a dozen folks were gunned down during a midnight Batman movie at a Colorado theater. Yet she gets sudden supporters for this doctrinaire awakening. Typical Demohack behavior.
Blah-bid-y, Blah...Lizzy...blah, "Demomob"...blah, blah-biddy, blah-biddy, blah...blah.."Okey" (should be Okie)..blah...blah..Glob...Cantabridgian, blah-blah, blah-biddy, Lizzy...blahblah..."states righter" blah...durned....Lizzy...blah, blah...
So an assault weapons ban is good for Massachusetts, but when someone buys an assault weapon in New Hampshire and brings it to Massachusetts, it's no big deal? More political expediency shrouded in "moderation". Does Scotto have any principles?

This headline is a good example of how the very liberal media twists stories to promote their favored candidate. Brown does not oppose gun control for assault weapons, but rather federal legislation of same. That is the key difference which isn't to be found until several paragraphs later within the full article. Brown supports this ban in MA.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz...... It's rare that I have had such little respect for the views of another person as I do hers. I detest that shrill, over-the-top opinionated tool.
Buying a gun in any other location that does not meet the guidelines for sale MA and bringing it into this State (versus passing through the State) is illegal. A very short search of the Chapter 140 laws would spell this out for you.
Machine guns? WHAT machine guns? Machine guns are illegal to sell in the US to all but a few highly licensed collectors. Don't be brainwashed by the Globe when they confuse "machine gun" and "auto matic weapon" and "semi automatic". Machine guns fire repeatedly when the trigger is held down, and you and I CANNOT buy one in any state. What IS legal in MA are semi-automatic weapons - one trigger pull, one round fired. And since 1994, the largest magazine sold in new guns in MA is 10 rounds. So what's with all the hysterics? And by the way - WHAT is an "assault weapon"? Surely, a semi-auto rifle is not an assault weapon. Folks are falling for the Hollywood gun images. Those sleek, black, military-looking rifles you buy in MA are NOT assault rifles; they are semi-auto (not selective fire, which permits full auto firing, and is the military configuration). In fact, these guns are widely used for competition, target shooting, and hunting. We don't need more gun bans; we need to find a way to identify folks with mental deficencies and behavoral difficulties, and seperate them from firearms, bombs, knives, cars and writing positions at the Globe.
News flash...ALL guns are intended to fire a projectile which, if improperly or unsafely used (or intentionally aimed)have the potential to kill. Semi auto guns are NOT designed to "murder"; murder is the wrongful killing of another, and involves the intent of the actor. Guns do not have intent; people do. Semi auto rifles are widely used in shooting sports, hunting and competition. Semi auto handguns are the most widely used self-defense guns in the country. You might want to spend some time reading (or even watching TV) about what differentiates these tools from military arms.
